Kitchen & Bathroom Style Guide for Westchester County Homeowners

A clear explanation of the major design styles — how each is defined, what makes it work, and which Westchester homes and architects it fits.

Transitional

· Best for: Most Westchester homes

The most popular style in Westchester County — a blend of traditional warmth and contemporary restraint. Shaker cabinet doors, quartz countertops, mixed metals, and clean proportions. Works in colonial, cape, and craftsman architecture.

Traditional

· Best for: Colonial, Tudor, Georgian

Raised-panel or inset doors, face-frame construction, painted or stained, ornate hardware, and natural stone countertops. Common in Chappaqua, Bronxville, and Larchmont's older homes. Requires careful proportion work.

Contemporary

· Best for: New construction and modern homes

Slab door fronts, frameless construction, integrated appliances, handleless profiles, and quartz or minimally veined stone. Strong geometry and high contrast. Common in Westchester new construction.

Modern Farmhouse

· Best for: Casual suburban

Shaker doors in white or light paint, farm sink, open shelving accents, black hardware, and warm wood tones. Accessible and family-friendly. Best in less formal suburban homes.

Luxury Coastal

· Best for: Waterfront and coastal adjacent

White or natural wood cabinetry, unlacquered brass or brushed gold hardware, blue or green accents, and natural stone. Popular in Greenwich and Westport.
