What Separates Quality Cabinetry

Construction Standards

Not all cabinets are built the same. The difference between a $15,000 kitchen and a $75,000 kitchen often comes down to how the boxes are made, how drawers are joined, and what moves when you open a door. Here is what we look at when specifying cabinetry for our clients.

Box Construction

Furniture-grade plywood (3/4") is significantly stronger and more moisture-resistant than particleboard. We specify plywood boxes across our semi-custom and fully custom lines.

Drawer Joinery

Dovetail joints on drawer boxes are the gold standard — they resist racking and outlast mechanical fasteners by decades. All our custom-tier brands use dovetail construction.

Hinges & Drawer Slides

Soft-close hinges (Blum, Grass) and undermount drawer slides are standard across every line we carry. They should not be an upcharge — they are the baseline.

Door Construction

Full-overlay doors create a furniture-quality look. Face-frame construction with partial overlay is standard on mid-range lines; frameless full-overlay is standard on premium lines.

Finish Quality

Catalyzed conversion varnish finishes are more durable and chemical-resistant than standard lacquers. Our custom lines use multi-step finishing processes for depth and longevity.

Common Questions

Cabinetry FAQ

What is the difference between stock, semi-custom, and fully custom cabinets?

Stock cabinets ship in fixed sizes (usually in 3" increments) from warehouse inventory — fastest lead time, most economical. Semi-custom cabinets offer more size flexibility, finish options, and interior accessories with 4–6 week lead times. Fully custom cabinets are built to exact specifications with any wood species, finish, and interior configuration — 8–14 week lead time. Our designers help you determine which tier fits your project.

What cabinet brands do you carry?

We carry KraftMaid (semi-custom), Woodmode and Brookhaven (fully custom), Crystal (semi-custom), Kemper (semi-custom), Showplace (semi-custom/custom), and Cardell (stock/semi-custom). Our showrooms have extensive door sample displays and finish libraries.

How long does it take to receive cabinets after ordering?

Lead times vary: stock and in-stock semi-custom orders arrive in 1–2 weeks; semi-custom orders in 4–6 weeks; fully custom orders in 8–14 weeks. We factor these into your project schedule so installation follows seamlessly.

What does cabinet installation cost?

Cabinet costs for a kitchen range from approximately $15,000–$40,000 for semi-custom and $35,000–$90,000+ for fully custom, depending on kitchen size, wood species, finish, and interior accessories. Bathroom vanity cabinetry starts around $2,500 for semi-custom. Pricing includes delivery and professional installation.

Can I see cabinet samples before ordering?

Yes. Our Chappaqua and Congers showrooms have extensive door and finish sample displays for every brand we carry. Walk in any time Monday–Saturday, 9am–5:30pm. No appointment needed — our designers will walk you through options and pull accurate pricing.

Do you only install cabinets you sell, or can you install customer-supplied cabinets?

We specialize in full design-build projects using the brands we carry, which ensures quality control and a single point of accountability. We do not typically install customer-supplied cabinetry from outside our lines.
