Backsplash Installation

Tile Backsplash Installation in Westchester County, NY

Professional tile installation — not a side service, but an integral part of how we build complete kitchens.

What proper backsplash installation involves

  • Substrate preparationExisting tile or drywall surface is assessed, repaired, or replaced. A flat, sound substrate is non-negotiable for lasting tile work.
  • Layout planningWe establish the tile layout before cutting begins — ensuring symmetry, minimizing cuts at focal points, and correctly positioning the pattern.
  • SettingTile is set with appropriate thinset mortar for the tile type. Large-format tiles, stone tiles, and glass tiles each have specific requirements.
  • GroutingAfter full cure, tile is grouted with the specified grout color. Excess grout is removed and the surface is polished.
  • SealingNatural stone and sanded grout are sealed after grouting. Glass tile and polished porcelain are typically unsealed.

How long does backsplash installation take?

Tile backsplash installation for a typical kitchen takes 1–2 days: one day for setting tile, one day for grouting and cleanup. Full-height backsplashes or complex patterns take longer.

Can backsplash tile be installed over existing tile?

In most cases, we recommend removing existing tile to ensure a flat, properly bonded substrate. Installing over existing tile risks an uneven surface and reduced adhesion — especially in areas exposed to heat and moisture.
