Project Overview

A Noroton Heights Colonial had a primary bathroom that had been minimally updated in the mid-1990s: builder-grade tile, a fiberglass soaking tub that had never been used, and a shower barely large enough for two. The renovation goal was a complete transformation — doubling the functional shower space, adding steam, installing a freestanding tub that would actually be used, and creating a material palette that would feel timelessly luxurious rather than trend-driven.

Project Detail

The Walk-In Steam Shower

The original 36x36 inch shower was demolished along with the adjoining linen closet to create a 78-inch wide walk-in wet room. The steam shower enclosure is fully enclosed behind a custom frameless glass panel with a hand-polished nickel frame. Inside: a 24x48 bookmatched Bianco Lasa marble shower wall, a sloped ceiling directing steam toward the drain, a Mr. Steam iTempo thermostatic steam generator, a Waterworks thermostatic shower system with three body spray positions and a rain head, and a carved teak bench.

The Freestanding Tub

The original fiberglass soaking tub was replaced with a Victoria + Albert Mozzano freestanding tub in matte white — a solid volcanic limestone composite with an organically curved silhouette. The tub is positioned to face a garden window overlooking the rear property. The tub filler is a Waterworks floor-mount in hand-polished nickel — a deliberately elevated detail that sets the tonal register for the room.

Marble Surfaces and Heated Floor

The floor is Bianco Lasa marble in a 12x24 format with radiant electric heat beneath — a Nuheat mat system with a programmable digital thermostat. The double vanity is a custom inset piece in a white lacquer with Calacatta marble countertop and integrated Waterworks undermount sinks. The vanity mirrors are antique mirror with a soft smoke tint — warmer than standard clear mirror and flattering in the morning light.
