Planning Phase
- Set total budget range (include appliances, permits, contingency)
- Define must-haves vs nice-to-haves
- Assess whether layout changes are needed
- Collect 10–15 inspiration images
- Research neighborhoods — understand your home's market value
- Consider timing (school calendar, holiday avoidance)
Design & Selection
- Approve floor plan and elevation drawings
- Select cabinet brand, door style, and finish
- Select countertop material and slab (if natural stone, visit slab yard)
- Select backsplash tile
- Select kitchen flooring
- Select hardware (pulls, knobs)
- Select lighting fixtures and layout
- Select sink and faucet
- Confirm appliance specs with cabinet designer
- Review and sign contract + scope of work
Pre-Construction
- Order all appliances immediately after contract signing
- Verify permit application submitted
- Set up temporary kitchen (microwave, mini-fridge, hot plate)
- Clear kitchen of all personal items
- Protect adjacent flooring and walls from debris
- Notify household members of construction schedule
During Construction
- Maintain daily/weekly contact with your project manager
- Review and approve any change orders in writing before work proceeds
- Keep a running list of questions — ask your project manager, not the crew
- Approve tile layout before grouting
- Review countertop template accuracy before fabrication is confirmed
Completion
- Complete final walkthrough with project manager
- Test all appliances and connections
- Test all cabinet doors, drawers, and hardware
- Confirm all permits and inspections are closed
- File all warranties, manuals, and care instructions
- Leave a Google review if you're satisfied
