Project Overview

A high-end Stamford residence had a primary bathroom that had aged past its design currency — a pink-toned marble that once felt premium now reading as dated, a double vanity with a broken sightline, and a shower that was functional but far below the caliber of the home. The homeowners wanted a clean reset: contemporary, quiet, and spa-quality without any of the visual noise of trend-chasing design. The brief was restraint — precise, considered, and built to last.

Project Detail

The Shower: Curbless Large-Format Porcelain

The original shower was reconfigured and expanded by 12 inches by reclaiming space from an unused linen closet. The new shower is curbless with a linear drain running the full width at the back wall — a detail that makes the floor feel continuous and makes cleaning effortless. The tile is a 24x48 matte white porcelain in a full-height vertical stack on three walls, with a single 12-inch horizontal band of aged brass mosaic creating a deliberate accent line at eye height. The glass enclosure is frameless 3/8-inch tempered glass with minimal aged brass hardware.

The Vanity: Custom Double with Integrated Medicine Cabinets

The original builder vanity was replaced with a custom floating vanity in a slab-front, flat-panel design in a warm greige stained white oak veneer. The vanity runs the full 72-inch width of the available wall, with two undermount sinks and a quartz top in Silestone Desert Silver — a warm grey that coordinates with the tile without matching it. Above each sink, recessed medicine cabinets with built-in LED lighting eliminate the need for surface-mounted sconces while providing excellent task lighting and significant storage.

Heated Floors and Thermostatic Controls

The floor is a 12x24 Carrara marble tile — honed, not polished — running in a linear offset pattern that follows the direction of the room. Beneath the marble, a Nuheat electric radiant mat heats the floor to a set temperature through a programmable thermostat. The shower operates through a Kohler DTV+ thermostatic system with two outlets — overhead rain head and handshower. The system is programmable — the shower temperature and outlet configuration can be set from a wall-mounted touchpad.

Common Questions

How much does a primary bathroom remodel cost in Stamford, CT?
Primary bathroom renovations in Stamford, CT range from $40,000 for a focused fixtures-and-tile update to $120,000+ for a full luxury suite with custom vanity millwork, large-format porcelain, heated floors, and thermostatic systems. This contemporary renovation ran $92,000 including the shower expansion, custom floating vanity, radiant heat, and full tile work.
Is heated flooring worth it in a bathroom renovation?
For a primary bathroom, yes — particularly in Connecticut winters. Electric radiant mats cost $1,500–$3,000 installed and can only be done during a bathroom renovation when the floor is already open. The ongoing operating cost is roughly $5–15/month. The daily comfort benefit and the value it adds to the bathroom from a resale perspective make it a near-universal specification for Stamford-area renovations at this price point.
